What this blog’s about
This my personal blog. For all my general ramblings. Mostly I write about society, politics, music, movies, TV and books. If you’re into that sort of thing, stick around, and I’ll try to make it interesting. One disclaimer though: I write here for me, not for any particular audience. It’s an outlet, a way to express myself that I don’t get in copywriting. I’ll rant, I’ll swear and I’ll swoon. But more often than not, I suspect I’ll simply bore you.
What I get paid to do
I run Divine Write, a small copywriting studio. Most of my work is web copy (including SEO copy), but I also write brochures, case studies, sales letters, scripts and ads. I’ve been full-time professional writer since 1994. I started Divine Write in 2002, after working as a technical writer in the software industry for 9 years.
I’ve written 3 ebooks:
- Practical SEO Copywriting – A handy, comprehensive guide on how to balance the needs of Google against the needs of your readers, when writing search engine optimized (SEO) copy.
- The Copywriting Scorecard for Bloggers – I wrote this with Australia’s leading blogger, Darren Rowse (aka Problogger), It allows you to objectively measure the quality of your blog posts, from a copywriting point of view, using tried and tested best practices. You simply print out a scorecard, check how many recommendations you’ve incorporated into your post, then add up your score for a total out of 100. The higher your score, the more effective your post is likely to be.
- SEO Secrets – A comprehensive DIY search engine optimization (SEO) guide for small business owners, bloggers and SMB marketers. It details a practical 9-step process that will get you to the top of Google. It’s more than tips & tricks, and more than advice. It’s a comprehensive process you can start implementing NOW.
I also co-founded PropertyBlurbs.com and CarBlurbs.com. Two websites that automatically generate high quality sales copy. The first for real estate agents, the second for car dealers.
